Being a cultural melting pot, Amsterdam has a wide spectrum of music to offer. In the summer the city becomes an important international centre for world music. For the traditional tear-jerking Dutch ballads, so-called 'smartlappen', head for the pubs in the Jordaan; good fun taken in small doses. Furthermore Amsterdam has a cafe on nearly every corner; closing time on weekdays is usually 1 a.m ., and 2 a.m. or later on week-ends.
